WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BUILD A BETTER GRIP SOCK?
In the case of Fusion Grip, two years of development, multiple prototypes and wear tests covering everything from soccer and tennis to Pilates and a trip to a trampoline park.
The brief sounded straightforward: create an incredibly versatile sock that could add stability across lateral movement, gym training, sport and everyday activity.
Getting there was anything but.
RETHINKING THE GRIP SOCK
Early versions of Fusion Grip used physical grippers applied to the bottom of the sock.
They worked, but wear testing exposed a problem.
“We saw early samples with physical grips on the bottom, but the feedback from wear testing was mixed. Some people could feel the grips underfoot.”
- Tina, Stance Senior Director of Product
So the team started looking for another solution.
Rather than applying grip onto the sock, could grip become part of the sock itself?
The answer came through a performance yarn that could be knit directly into the construction.
GRIP, BUILT IN
The new yarn allowed the product team to engineer grip directly into the footbed, providing targeted traction without relying on raised silicone elements.
But finding the technology was only the beginning. Placement mattered just as much.
Prototype after prototype was wear tested and adjusted until the grip sat exactly where it needed to.
Then a pickleball session revealed something unexpected.
“During one wear test we noticed the tongue of the shoe moving. That led us to add grip yarn to the top of the foot as well, helping keep everything in place.”
- Tina, Stance Senior Director of Product
It is a small detail, but one that captures how Fusion Grip was developed.
Test it. Find the movement. Refine it.
The final construction combines grip through the footbed, toe and top of the foot to create a more stable connection between your foot, sock and shoe.
PUTTING IT THROUGH ITS PACES
Fusion Grip was put to work across soccer, golf, gym sessions both with and without shoes, tennis, pickleball, yoga and Pilates.
And then things got a little less scientific.
“We even tested them on a group trip to Sky Zone. By the end of development, our wear testing crew absolutely loved the sock.”
- Tina, Stance Senior Director of Product
Different sports. Different movements. One seriously versatile sock.
MORE THAN GRIP
Fusion Grip pairs its integrated grip construction with some of Stance's most trusted performance technologies.
FreshTek™ helps manage moisture and odor. Infiknit™ reinforces the heel and toe. Targeted arch support and mid cushioning add comfort and support, while an ergonomic construction follows the natural shape of the foot.
The result is not simply a sock with grip added to it.
Grip is part of the build.
TWO YEARS LATER
From early prototypes with physical grippers to a fully integrated knit construction, Fusion Grip evolved through two years of testing, adjusting and testing again.
The result is a performance sock built for stability across sport, training and movement.
Zero slip. All grip. Stability is the new standard.
