Description

On April 15, 1947, all eyes were on Jackie Robinson as he took to the field. As the first African American to play in the Majors, he broke baseball's color barrier when he made his debut with the Dodgers. During his ten years with the team, Robinson emerged as a leader, shaping not just the game, but the fabric of America. He was the Rookie of the Year in 1947, the National League MVP in 1949, and a six-time All-Star. He was also the National League batting champion in 1949, and led the Dodgers to six World Series appearances, snagging the title in 1955. Yet he is remembered best for his role in furthering Civil Rights. His time on the field helped transform life outside of it, opening hearts and eyes to the need for equality.
