CHI CHI 2
Chi Chi Rodriguez’s story is almost mythical. While growing up in Puerto Rico, Rodriguez began caddying at the age of eight. This introduced him to the game while also providing a means to supplement his family’s meager income. With a rolled-up tin can for a ball and a club he crafted from the branch of a guava tree, Rodriguez taught himself how to play. After serving in the Army for two years, he returned to caddying. Soon, however, he landed on the PGA Tour, where he snagged eight titles between 1963 and 1979. Through the years, Chi Chi’s style and personality also made him a favorite among the fans. After sinking a putt, Chi Chi often transformed his putter into a sword, mimicking the moves of a torero slaying a bull. Even though he was a very small man, he had a special stance and swing with the driver that enabled him to hit the ball as far as the longest drivers on the tour earning him legend status.
